There are three different kinds of therapy:
Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a skilled rehabilitative service, which enables the individual to achieve their highest level of independence with functional mobility skills. These skills include such daily activities as standing, walking, and bed mobility. If one is experiencing difficulty with any of these tasks, physical therapy can intervene to decrease weakness, alleviate pain, improve balance, and correct posture so one can safely achieve their maximal level of functioning. Physical therapists assist individuals who have experienced a stroke, amputation, bone fracture, cardiac or pulmonary disease.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy provides skilled services to maximize residents' levels of independence with their activities of daily living. Activities of daily living (ADLs) include feeding, grooming, dressing, bathing and hygiene tasks. Through functional tasks, adaptive equipment, and purposeful therapeutic activities, occupational therapists assist individuals in achieving their highest level of function with these basic skills.

Occupational therapists can also evaluate and assess the need for customized wheelchairs for residents. Our therapists also specialize in splinting to help minimize contractures of the joints. Treatment emphasizes functional ability and purposeful activity to enhance the residents' recovery to the fullest extent possible. This focus on practical skills emphasizes the individual's self-sufficiency. Occupational therapy further complements the recovery process utilizing problem-solving skills, range of motion, strengthening exercises and endurance activities.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is a skilled rehabilitative service that provides treatment for a number of disorders which may adversely affect speech, language, swallowing, hearing or cognition. Impairments such as strokes, Alzheimer's disease, and other progressive neurological diseases can leave the individual susceptible to compromised communication or eating skills. the role of the speech therapist is to improve or maximize the residents' function, then to develop and implement a functional maintenance program to directly treat an individual's deficits. The speech therapist also provides intensive training and education for the family and Nursing Home staff regarding the patient's deficits and those skilled techniques required for improving and/or maintaining the resident's optimum functional level.
